Jan Tomaszewski (born 9 January 1948) is a Polish politician, football commentator, and former international footballer that played as a goalkeeper. As a footballer, he was nicknamed "Tomek" and "The Man That Stopped England", and was named Best Goalkeeper in the 1974 World Cup. He was elected to the Sejm at the 2011 election, representing ??d? for Law and Justice.
He grew up in Wroc?aw where his parents were expelled from Vilnius after World War II. A goalkeeper, Tomaszewski is best remembered by some for his performance for Poland against England, in a qualifying match for the 1974 World Cup, which England needed to win. Tomaszewski had been labelled "a clown" by Brian Cloughbefore the match (the two men however became quite friendly in later years), but had the last laugh as he turned in a man-of-the-match performance repeatedly denying England's attackers; the only goal he conceded being an equalizing penalty fromAllan Clarke. Earlier, Jan Domarski had scored for the Poles. Poland drew the game 1-1 and qualified for the finals in West Germany at the expense of England.
In The Story of the World Cup, Brian Glanville wrote: "In retrospect, to be eliminated by so fine a side as Poland seems no disgrace, but this is a posteriori reasoning. I doubt if England could have made so dazzling a contribution as Poland to the tournament, yet it should be remembered that the Poland which beat England and the Poland which took their place were two very different propositions". (p. 191, 2005 edn.)
Poland went on to claim third place during a tournament in which Tomaszewski saved two penalties in two different matches (from Staffan Tapper and Uli Hoene?) - the first 'keeper in FIFA World Cup history to do so. Tomaszewski went on to win asilver medal with Poland at the 1976 Summer Olympics, and also played in the 1978 World Cup, where Poland disappointed in only managing to get as far as the second group phase.
Tomaszewski's club career was mainly at ?KS ??d?, having been forbidden by Poland's communist government to play abroad before the age of 30, even after coming to international attention.
After the 1978 World Cup, he moved abroad, first to Belgian club Beerschot, and then Hércules in Spain, before retiring in 1982. In all he won 63 caps for Poland, making him his country's most-capped 'keeper.
He now works as a commentator and sports journalist. He is known for making controversial comments about football in Poland.

GRZEGORZ LATO Portrait Drawing Soccer Football Khaled3Ken Gallery

Grzegorz Boleslaw Lato (born 8 April 1950 in Malbork) is a former Polishfootball striker, and coach. He was the leading scorer at the 1974 World Cup. Lato's playing career coincided with the golden era of Polish football, which began with Olympic gold in Munich in 1972 and ended a decade later with third place at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, a repeat of the Poles' impressive finish in 1974 in Germany. He is the only Polish player ever to win the Golden boot at a World Cup.
From 2001 to 2005 Lato, as a member of Democratic Left Alliance, was a senator in Poland. On 30 October 2008 he was elected President of Polish FA
For Poland, Lato has been capped a record 104 times between 1971 and 1984; he scored 45 goals, which is second-best in national history behind W?odzimierz Luba?ski. Other than the 1974 World Cup, where he scored seven goals, he also participated in the 1978 and 1982 tournaments. In the 1974 World Cup, he won the Golden Shoe after scoring 7 goals throughout the tournament. In a difficult Group 4, the Poles made an early impression, defeating Argentina by a score of 3–2, with two goals from Lato, the first being scored after just seven minutes of play. Buoyed by that success, Poland then posted the tournament's second largest win with a 7–0 defeat of Haiti (the largest being Yugoslavia's 9–0 demolition of Zaire), with Lato weighing in with another two strikes. In the second round, the Stal Mielec-based striker was even more instrumental, scoring winning goals against Group B rivals Sweden (1–0) and Yugoslavia (2–1). And while even Lato was powerless to prevent an agonising 1–0 defeat by Germany in Frankfurt the in-form marksman was able to propel his team to third place courtesy of the only goal in the play-off victory over Brazil. He was then known as Poland's favorite player. While playing for Poland, he helped them win several titles.
Blessed with remarkable acceleration, the talented right-winger consistently lived up to the high expectations placed before him whenever he was given the opportunity to compete at the international level. Lato was not renowned as crowd pleaser, but rather as a consistent and complete team player. His uncanny awareness on the playing field was ostensibly what allowed him to achieve great success at the international and club levels. Despite his accomplishments at the three World Cup tournaments at which he participated, Lato was not selected by UEFA as one of the European 50 best players, as compiled for its 50th anniversary in 2004. It exemplified the common assertion that Lato is one of the most underrated players in European football history

Portrait Drawing Soccer Football Khaled3Ken Gallery AMERICA KASEY KELLER
Kasey C. Keller (born November 29, 1969) is an American former soccerplayer who last played for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer in 2011 as well as being the former starter goalkeeper for the United States men's national soccer team. He now works as the Sounder's color commentator in local broadcasts.
He is a four-time FIFA World Cup participant and was the first American goalkeeper to become a regular in the German Bundesliga, the EnglishPremier League, and the Spanish La Liga. Keller also has the highest number of caps for American goalkeepers who played for the United States football team.
Keller got his first senior team cap against Colombia on February 4, 1990 and was on the roster as Tony Meola's back up at the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
After being ignored by U.S. coach Bora Milutinovi? for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, he made Steve Sampson's ill-fated squad in 1998, and played two games at the World Cup. Keller was an overage selection for the 1996 Olympics team, starting all three matches.
Kasey was named U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year in 1997 and 1999, and again in 2005.
Perhaps his most famous clean sheet came in the historic 1998 win versus Brazil. Keller played all 90 minutes in goal and made ten saves, many from point blank range, in preserving the 1–0 shutout victory for the U.S. His performance in goal prompted Brazilian greatRom?rio to remark “That is the best performance by a goalkeeper I have ever seen,” the performance was commemorated in the song "Kasey Keller" by synth-pop band Barcelona.
For most of their careers, Keller and Brad Friedel were engaged in a head to head battle for the U.S. goalkeeper's jersey. Keller got the nod in 1998 but was second choice to Friedel in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. In spite of this stiff competition he is the most capped men's goalkeeper in U.S. soccer history with 102 caps and also the team's all-time leader in wins and keeping clean sheets.
Keller crowned the U.S.'s run in the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament with a clean sheet in the final match against Panama and two saves in the penalty shootout to give the side the trophy. Keller started the first seven games of the final round of World Cup qualifying in 2005, recording five consecutive clean sheets and 507 consecutive goalless minutes to lead the U.S. to qualification for the2006 FIFA World Cup Finals in Germany. He then became the first male player in U.S. history to win his third Athlete of the Year award. On May 2, 2006 Keller and teammate Claudio Reyna became the first two Americans named to four World Cup Rosters. In that World Cup, he played in all three games, being named Man of the Match in the 1–1 draw with Italy in Kaiserslautern on June 17, 2006. Keller is the only U.S. player to participate in both the 1990 and 2006 World Cups.

Dooley, born to a German mother and a U.S. Army father, started his professional career in 1984 with third division club FC Homburg. Prior to that, he had played as a forward with amateur team FK Pirmasens. He moved to midfield with Homburg and helped the team move steadily up the German leagues, until they finally reached the 1. Bundesliga. He moved to Kaiserslautern in 1988 and helped them to the German Cup in 1990 and the Bundesliga title in 1991. After the 1994 World Cup, he moved to Bayer Leverkusen, and to Schalke 04 a year after that, helping them to the 1997 UEFA Cup title. At the end of the season, he made his move toMajor League Soccer (MLS), signing with the Columbus Crew. Dooley would spend three seasons in Columbus, and was named to the MLS Best XI in both 1997 and 1998. In 2000, Thomas was traded to the MetroStars for Mike Duhaney, partially to help support Lothar Matth?us' adjustment to the United States. Dooley played one year for the Metros before retiring from soccer altogether. He then went back to Germany, becoming the head coach of FC Saarbrückenin 2002 and 2003.
As U.S. Soccer started to look abroad for players eligible to play for its national team in advance of its hosting the 1994 FIFA World Cup, Dooley was discovered; he assumed US citizenship in 1992, and made his first international appearance on May 30 againstIreland. Dooley became a regular for the US almost immediately, being named U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year in 1993 and then playing every minute at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. After John Harkes was dismissed from the U.S. national team, Dooley was named captain for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, and started every game for the U.S. On February 21, 1999, Dooley was given a send-off match by the United States in a friendly against Chile. He would end his international career with 81 caps and seven goals. Fredua Koranteng "Freddy" Adu (born June 2, 1989) is a Ghanaian-bornAmerican soccer player who currently plays for Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer. He plays primarily as an attacking midfielder, but he is also used as a winger or forward.
At the age of 14, he became one of the youngest athletes to sign a professional contract in the United States, after he was selected by D.C. United in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. On April 3, 2004, he became the youngest player to appear in a Major League Soccer (MLS) game when he came on as a substitute in a game against the San Jose Earthquakes. Two weeks later, on April 17, he became the youngest scorer in MLS history, scoring a goal in a 3–2 loss to the MetroStars.
Early in his career, Adu was considered an up-and-comer for United States soccer; much speculation surrounded his potential for future success, and he was even referred to as the "next Pele". Despite his success for the US youth team, he is generally considered to have failed to live up to the expectations for his career. Notably, he has not yet played for an English Premier League club; a league in which many in the United States had tipped him to star. Adu was not selected for the US national team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Landon Timothy Donovan (born March 4, 1982) is an Americanassociation football player, currently playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy. He usually plays as a withdrawn forward, and can also be used as anattacking midfielder on either wing.
A member of the inaugural class of the U.S. Soccer residency program inBradenton, Florida, Donovan was declared player of the tournament for his role in the United States U17 that finished fourth in the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Championship, Donovan later signed with the German side Bayer Leverkusen. After six years with the club, the majority of which was spent on loan at the San Jose Earthquakes, Donovan moved to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2005, though he returned to the Bundesliga for a three-month spell at the start of 2009 on loan to Bayern Munich. He went on loan again from January to March 2010 with English Premier League sideEverton, where he scored twice in ten appearances.
For the United States national team, Donovan is the all-time leader in scoring and assists, and has the most caps of all active players. He is a four-time winner of the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award (the only male to do so and the only male to win in consecutive years), as well as the only three-time winner of the Honda Player of the Year award, having won it seven times. His goals in the 2010 World Cup made Donovan the highest scoring American player in World Cup history and the third American player to score in more than one World Cup (afterBrian McBride and Clint Dempsey).
Donovan was a member of the inaugural class at U.S. Soccer's full-time residency program at theIMG Academy, in Bradenton, Florida. He won the Golden Ball at the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Championship as the tournament's best player. In his two years playing for the U-17 team, he scored thirty-five goals in forty-one games. In 2000, he moved up to both the United States U-23 men's national soccer team as well as the senior team. Despite this he played for the United States U-20 men's national soccer team in 2001. In March 2001 he was involved in a collision with Marvin Lee, the captain of Trinidad and Tobago national football team U20s in Macoya, Trinidad, which resulted in Lee being paralyzed and broke one of Donovan's ribs. Lee later died in 2003.
Donovan made his World Cup Finals debut in the 2002 World Cup starting in the shock upset of pre-tournament favorites Portugal, a match the Americans won 3–2. Donovan's cross in the 29th minute deflected in off Jorge Costa, giving the U.S. a 2–0 lead. Later, Donovan would tally his first World Cup Finals goal in the 83rd minute of a 3–1 loss to Poland in the third match of the group stage. He then scored his second goal of the tournament on a header which clinched a 2–0 "Round of 16" victory for the Americans over arch-rival Mexico. Though the U.S. would go on to lose 1–0 to Germany in the quarterfinals, Donovan would later be named "Best Young Player" of the tournament.
In 2006 he became the United States' all-time assist leader with twenty-three when he set up Ben Olsen; the previous all-time assist leader was Cobi Jones.
Donovan was a member of the U.S. squad at the 2006 World Cup, in which the Americans were eliminated in the group stage. He led the U.S. to the 2007 Gold Cup title with 4 goals, including a crucial penalty in the 2–1 victory over Mexico in the final. On January 19, 2008, Donovan scored his 35th international goal, a penalty against Sweden, and passed Eric Wynalda as the United States' all-time leading goal scorer. Donovan reached 100 caps at the age of 26 on June 8, 2008, in a friendly against Argentina that ended in a 0–0 draw, and was the fourth-youngest person to do so.
Donovan captained the U.S. in the group stage of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup due to Carlos Bocanegra's injury absence. Donovan scored on a penalty kick against Italy, shortly after his team had been reduced to 10 men, and scored for the United States in a 3–2 defeat to Brazil in the final. On October 10, 2009, Donovan scored on a free kick, giving the U.S. a 3–2 victory over Honduras inSan Pedro Sula, clinching a berth in the 2010 World Cup.
Donovan was included in the squad for the 2010 World Cup, and played all four games in the United States' campaign. He scored against Slovenia with a shot straight up into goal past the goalkeeper's face, in a 2–2 tie, and the only goal in a 1–0 defeat of Algeriaoff of a rebounded attempt on goal by teammate Clint Dempsey, leading the USA to win their World Cup group for the first time since 1930. Donovan scored a penalty against Ghana as the U.S lost 2–1 after extra time and were eliminated from the competition. His goals in the 2010 World Cup made Donovan the highest scoring American man in World Cup history, and just the third American man to score in more than one World Cup (after Brian McBride and Clint Dempsey). In 2006, he was invited to a pre-World Cup training camp with the United States national team by then-coach Bruce Arena but declined, stating his desire to play for Italy. He was called up for the 2007 Euro U-21 by head coachPierluigi Casiraghi. He scored four goals at the 2008 Summer Olympics, making him the top scorer for the tournament, despite only reaching the quarter-final.
Italian national football team manager Marcello Lippi has stated that had Rossi been fit, he would have received a call-up for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers in September 2008. Rossi was called up to the Italy squad in October 2008, making his debut for the national team as a second half substitute against Bulgaria on October 11. Rossi scored his first goal for the Italian national team on June 6, 2009, in a friendly against Northern Ireland, at Pisa's Arena Garibaldi. He also scored two goals against the United States in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup on June 15, 2009, in South Africa.
Rossi was in Lippi's provisional 28-man 2010 FIFA World Cup squad announced in May, but failed to make the cut for final 23-man squad.
On November 17, 2010, for his 18th cap for Italy, Rossi was picked by Italian manager Cesare Prandelli to wear the Azzurri captain's armband for the first time ahead of the friendly againstRomania.
Rossi is known for his overall attacking style of play. He has often been compared to Del Piero due to his strong technical skills, range of passing, dribbling talents and his ability to pick out a pass. He is known for his ability to score goals and link-up play; he often drops deep and is involved in the buildup of plays. Rossi is able to play in a variety of attacking positions, including on the wings, as a support striker, lone-striker and in an attacking midfield role

Daniel Gregory Szetela (born June 17, 1987 in Passaic, New Jersey) is a formerAmerican soccer player.
In 2002, Szetela entered USSF's Bradenton Academy, graduating in May 2004. He then signed with Major League Soccer. His desire to play for his hometown club, theMetroStars, went unfulfilled. Because he signed with MLS after the annual draft had taken place, his rights were made available to teams in a weighted lottery, with Columbus Crew ending up with his rights. Joining in mid-season, Szetela appeared in eight regular season and two playoff games, while recording a solitary assist. In 2005, Szetela struggled to get on the field with the Crew. During 2006, he was beset by injury troubles and only saw four games for Columbus.
On August 31, 2007, Szetela was signed by Racing de Santander, in the SpanishPrimera Divisi?n. Szetela made his official debut with the Spanish club on November 14, in a scoreless draw against M?laga CF in the Copa del Rey. On January 29, 2008, Szetela was loaned out to Serie B side Brescia Calcio until June 30, 2008, with the option to purchase at the end. Szetela made his debut forBrescia Calcio on February 9, playing the last five minutes in a 4-2 comeback victory and made ten appearances total in Serie B.
Szetela extended his loan to Brescia Calcio through June 2009 on July 18, 2008. He scored his first goal for Brescia, his first professional goal in league play, on October 18, 2008, against Triestina. He returned to Spain on July 13, 2009. However, the Spanish side decided against renewing his contract.
Szetela opted not to continue a career in Europe and returned to the States and signed a contract with Major League Soccer. His contract was picked up by D.C. United, who were second in the allocation placements to sign returning U.S. international players.
On 20 March 2010 D.C. United released the midfielder who is now a free agent.
Szetela's early career was marked by adversity, including losing his father, and moving far from home at a young age. Also, Szetela was childhood friends with Giuseppe Rossi who has chosen to play for the Italy national football team.
Szetela, along with his two brothers, was arrested on February 11, 2011 after been involved in a bar room brawl in Boonton, New Jersey

James Patrick "Jimmy" Murphy (8 August 1910 – 14 November 1989) was afootball player and later a manager.
Born in Ton Pentre, Rhondda, Murphy attended Ton Pentre Village School and as a boy played the church organ. As a youth he played football for Ton Pentre Boys, Treorchy Thursday F.C., Treorchy Juniors and Mid-Rhondda Boys and in 1924 represented Wales in a schoolboy international against England in Cardiff. He turned professional in February 1928 when he joined West Bromwich Albionas a 17-year-old.
Murphy made his debut in a 1–0 defeat away to Blackpool on 5 March 1930 and played one further league game during his first season. In the following season,1930–31, West Bromwich Albion won the FA Cup and promotion from theSecond Division, but Murphy had yet to establish himself in the team and again made just two appearances. He became a regular in the Albion side upon the club's return to the First Division; from 1931–32 to 1934–35 he appeared 149 times in league and cup, helping his team to achieve four consecutive top ten finishes, including fourth place in 1932–33. The 1934–35 season saw Murphy miss just one match all season, and he helped Albion to reach the 1935 FA Cup Final, which they lost 4–2 to Sheffield Wednesday.
Murphy played more than 200 times for Albion, before moving to Swindon Town in 1939, but the Second World War curtailed his club career. Murphy was also called up to the Welsh national team during the 1930s.
During the Second World War, Murphy was giving a speech about football to a band of troops, and in attendance was Matt Busby. Busby was so impressed by Murphy's speech that, upon his appointment as manager of Manchester United, he made Murphy the first signing of his tenure at the club. Murphy had the role of "chief coach" from 1946 until 1955, and became assistant manager in 1955 after Manchester United won their third FA Youth Cup in a row. It was Murphy's responsibility at the club to scout and train the young footballers who were to become the "Busby Babes", which included the likes of Duncan Edwards and Bobby Charlton. Prior to this the larger teams had mainly bought rather than developed their players but instead Busby decided to slowly replace the older and more experienced players in his team with their youth players.
Jimmy, as chief coach, and later, assistant manager, was responsible for developing these young boys into the world class professionals that they became. He would spend hours with a player if he believed that they were capable of becoming a first team player. He was a very dedicated and passionate teacher whose tactical and technical lessons helped some of the world's best ever players to reach their full potential. After the Munich air disaster of 6 February 1958, he temporarily took over as manager while Matt Busby recovered from his injuries and, having assembled a substitute team, steered United to the 1958 FA Cup Final. Murphy had not been on the fatal flight because he had been away managing the Welsh team in a World Cup qualifying game. Murphy managed Wales at the 1958 FIFA World Cup in Sweden when they reached the quarter-finals in their only appearance to date in a World Cup finals tournament. They lost 1–0 to Brazil (the eventual winners), to a goal by 17 year-old Pelé.
Despite being approached to manage Brazil, Juventus and Arsenal, he remained as assistant manager at Old Trafford until 1971. Murphy chose never to become manager of the club because of his hate of the limelight, he loved working in the background but never aspired to fulfil the job of manager. From 1971, Murphy did some scouting work for Manchester United, most famously during the managerial reign of Tommy Docherty, where Murphy urged Docherty to sign wing players, Steve Coppell and Gordon Hill. Murphy died in November 1989, aged 79. In Murphy's honour after his death, Manchester United commissioned the "Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year Award", to be given to the best player in the club's youth system in the previous season. It was first awarded the summer after Murphy's death, and Lee Martin was the first recipient.
On 23 March 2009, a blue plaque was placed on his former family home in Treharne Street, Pentre.
In 2011, he was portrayed by David Tennant in the BBC Two film United, which centred on the Busby Babes and the Munich air disaster.

William John Charles, CBE (27 December 1931 – 21 February 2004), commonly known as John Charles, was a Welsh international footballer best remembered for spells with Leeds United and Juventus. Rated by many as the greatest all-round footballer ever to come from Wales, he was equally adept at centre-forward orcentre-back. He has since been included in the Football League 100 Legends and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.
He was never cautioned or sent off during his entire career, due to his philosophy of never kicking or intentionally hurting opposing players. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, he was nicknamed Il Gigante Buono – The Gentle Giant.
His brother, Mel Charles and nephew Jeremy Charles, also represented Wales.
In the foreword for Charles' autobiography, Sir Bobby Robson described him as "incomparable" and classed him among the all-time footballing greats such as Pelé, Diego Maradona and George Best. He also notes that Charles is the only footballing great to be world class in two very different positions.
"John wasn't only one of the greatest footballers who ever lived. He was one of the greatest men ever to play the game Sir Bobby Robson.
Jimmy Greaves once stated that "if I were picking my all-time great British team, or even a world eleven, John Charles would be in it". Other footballers have also named him as one of the best, including Jack Charlton, Nat Lofthouse and Billy Wright. Jack Charlton said "he was the best header of the ball I ever saw in my life."
Charles' accomplishments with Juventus led to him being voted 'the greatest foreign player ever in Serie A', ahead of Maradona, Michel Platini, Marco Van Basten and Zinedine Zidane – this in 1997, 34 years after his last appearance in the league. In 2001 he became the first non-Italian inducted to the Azzurri Hall of Fame.

In July 2009 Hartson received chemotherapy after being diagnosed with testicular cancer which had spread to his brain. It was later reported the cancer had spread to his lungs and that he remained in a "critical condition" following emergency surgery. The treatment was successful and by December of that year it was reported that the cancer had been virtually eradicated from Hartson's body although he would have more surgery and treatment to come.
